These look great! I have them in the oven now. The only issue so far is that even though I followed the recipe exactly, I didn't have near enough batter to fill a 9x13 pan, even thinly. I ended up transferring it to an 8x8.
Linda Meyer says
Hi Christy! I'm so sorry to hear that, I'm going to check the recipe in my Word files and see if I made a mistake when I transferred it to the recipe plug-in. Thanks so much for letting me know. I hope you enjoy them!
Maren says
Where did you find the baking pan I can't find it on their website
Linda Meyer says
I bought it at Williams Sonoma, but it doesn't look like they sell it anymore. Check Amazon, they might sell something similar.
Colleen says
Hi! Love this recipe! Do you happen to know the calorie content?
Linda Meyer says
Hi Colleen, thank you! We just updated the recipe card and they're approximately 300 calories per bar.
Maureen says
The instructions mention egg, but I don't see it in the ingredient list.
Linda Meyer says
Hi Maureen, the flax and water make the "egg." I updated the recipe card so it's clear. Thanks so much for your comment.

These were a breeze to put together. I have them in the oven now! Thanks for the recipe!

We're so glad they were easy to put together! : )

I hope to make a reduced calorie version.
I'm thinking to use peanut powder moisturized with almond milk to get the taste without calories.
Then, because I like the almond and chocolate flavor with minimum calories, chopped sugar-free chocolate covered almonds. I think I can freeze, then chop to get "chips."
I assume "whole oats" means whole oat groats although I wonder if 30 mins at 350 is enough since the groats need a lot of cooking. What would you think about pressure cooking the groats first?
In pursuit of minimum calories I will leave out the walnuts in favor of the almonds.
Another question I have is, what holds all this together? Is it the maple syrup? Doesn't seem like enough to keep it from being crumbly.
Linda Meyer says
Hi Joel, we can't guarantee that the peanut powder and almond milk will work, as the peanut butter and the flax egg are what holds the bars together. Thirty minutes in a 350F oven worked in our oven, however, since ovens can be calibrated differently, and some are convection and some are not, you'll want to bake them until they're firm and golden brown. The oats are whole rolled oats, not groats. I just updated the recipe to clarify. Let us know how your recipe turns out, we'd love to know if your substitutions work out. We're all for lower calorie granola bars! 🙂
Danniella Timoteo says
These bars are amazing! I made these for my family, and even my brother (who doesn’t like vegan foods AT ALL) loved them! I did make a few substitutions though, since I didn’t have exactly the same ingredients. I used almond flour, half PB fit powder and half natural peanut butter, agave syrup, and pecans instead of oat flour, full peanut butter, maple syrup, and walnuts in the recipe. Super yummy regardless!
Linda Meyer says
Hi Danniella! Thank you so much for the kind comment. We're so happy you and your family (especially your brother) enjoyed the recipe. Great substitutions!! 🙂
